Aston Villa do not want to let go of John Duran.

The 20-year-old came close to joining Chelsea in the summer after a £42 million bid was, according to reports from Duran's native Colombia, accepted by Villa.

The young striker, however, could not agree personal terms and the deal collapsed.

Now enjoying a rich vein of form which has seen him score six goals in just nine games this term, Chelsea remain interested in signing Duran, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

If the Blues want to sign him, however, he will come at a hefty price.

On Thursday, TEAMtalk reported that Villa have now placed an £80 million price tag on Duran's head to ward off the Blues, with manager Unai Emery keen to keep him at Villa Park.

It's easy to see why Villa would want to keep hold of Duran.

The Colombia international has averaged a goal every 48 minutes this season, with all six of his strikes coming as a substitute.

His most recent goal was a scorching half volley that secured Villa an historic 1-0 victory over Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

Speaking after the game, Duran has hailed for his impact off the bench by his Villa teammate Morgan Rogers.

“He comes on and causes defenders nightmares. You can see the quality he’s got," Rogers said of Duran. “He’s won how many games for us this season? He’s a great player."

“You can see that he’s only going to get better," he added. "For him to be 20 is mad."
