Enzo Maresca has insisted he is happy with goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, despite another poor showing between the sticks from the Spaniard against Newcastle United on Sunday.

Sanchez gave the ball away numerous times while trying to play out from the back as Chelsea beat the Magpies 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

The 26-year-old has made similar errors in multiple previous games this term, including last month's 4-2 win over Brighton, where he was at fault for both of the Seagulls' goals.

"It’s football and I’m the guy who asks Robbie to do that. Robbie is going to do that because the moment he stops, he isn’t going to play," Maresca explained after the win over Newcastle. "If he makes a mistake, it’s not Robbie’s problem, it’s my problem, my mistake, because I ask that of him."

"I am happy with how Robbie is playing and building from the back," he added. "Sometimes you make a mistake but it’s not going to change the way we play."

Palmer shines again against Magpies

While Sanchez may not have had the best day at the office against Eddie Howe's side, Cole Palmer did.

The Englishman, who was recently named as September's Premier League Player of the Month, produced a sublime pass in the build-up to Chelsea's opener, playing in Pedro Neto, who then teed up Nicolas Jackson for his sixth goal of the season.

After Newcastle had equalised through Alexander Isak, Palmer then scored the winner, slotting in at the near post after running nearly half the length of the pitch with the ball.

Palmer's strike was his seventh of the campaign and means he's now scored 32 times in 56 games for the Blues since signing from Manchester City last summer.

Speaking after Sunday's victory, Palmer said: "I always try to enjoy my football game by game. I try not to put pressure on myself."

He added: "Many people on the outside try to put pressure on me to replicate what I did last season in terms of numbers. It is my second season playing football and I am still very, very young."
