Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez climbed to the top of an unfortunate leaderboard following his horror display against Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday night.

City came from behind at the Etihad Stadium to beat the Blues 3-1, with goals from Josko Gvardiol, Erling Haaland, and Phil Foden cancelling out Noni Madueke's early opener.

Sanchez was directly at fault for Haaland's goal, wandering too far off his line and allowing the Norwegian to lob the ball over his head into an empty net.

The Spaniard's latest blunder adds to his previous mistakes against Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United, and Arsenal, and now leaves him tied with Ipswich Town’s Arijanet Muric at the top of the Premier League’s "errors leading to goals" chart, with both keepers responsible for five this season.

Ahead of the match, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca admitted that Sanchez is not at the level required to be the Blues' first-choice goalkeeper.

“He's getting better, but he’s still far, far, far from where I want him to be," said the Italian.

Asked whether Sanchez can be Chelsea's number one for many years to come, Maresca said: “For this season? No doubt. But then in the future, we don't know."

"It is not only about Robert. It is not even about me, you know?" he explained. "I’m focused on this moment, this season."

Sanchez's error against City may have just made up Maresca's mind.
