Chelsea have completed the signing teenage midfielder Mathis Eboue, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. Eboue, the 15-year-old son of Arsenal cult hero Emmanuel Eboue, joins the Blues from Watford and will join up with the club's academy.
Described by Romano as a "high quality attacking player," the youngster, previously of Arsenal, has already been playing for Watford's U-21s, while he's also a regular for England's U-16s.
Earlier this year, Eboue scored the title-winning goal for England's Under-16s against France in the Challenge Trophy.
Recently, a video of him scoring a superb solo goal for Watford also went viral.
Speaking to Goal in back in 2017, Eboue Senior, who made 214 appearances for Arsenal between 2004 and 2011, revealed that his son could have joined Chelsea's academy when he was younger, but opted instead to join the Gunners.
"He had two choices, Chelsea and Arsenal. I didn’t tell him anything, I said: 'Mathis it’s up to you. It doesn’t matter where, I want you to be happy,'" recalled the defender. "He said to me: 'Daddy I want to play for Arsenal. I like Arsenal and you used to play here too, the people they love you, so I want to play here.'"
The former Ivory Coast international also said at the time that his son had been earning some high praise from none other than Arsene Wenger.
"[Arsene] knows about Mathis," he said. "I heard that he said to the academy manager, talking about Mathis, that the way he plays is like Gilberto Silva."
