Chelsea have been informed they’ll need to fork out at least £83 million to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens.

The 20-year-old is enjoying a breakout season at the Westfalenstadion, registering 11 goals and five assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

His performances have caught the eye of several Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Liverpool, and Chelsea, with reports suggesting the Blues have already made contact with Dortmund over a potential transfer.

According to BILD, Dortmund are open to selling Gittens this summer – but only if their hefty £83 million valuation is met.

Gittens, who is under contract with Dortmund until 2028, is highly regarded at the club.

Back in November, former Dortmund striker Karl-Heinz Riedle, a key figure in their 1996/97 Champions League-winning squad, hailed the Englishman's potential, suggesting he could follow in the footsteps of former Dortmund youngster and current Chelsea star Jadon Sancho, as well as both Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham.

“Jamie is still not 100 per cent what we expect from a world-class player — but he has all the talent to become one of those," said Heinz-Ridele, as reported by The Sun. "He can become the next Sancho, Erling Haaland or Bellingham."

“He is very quick, very good in a one-against-one situation and with the ability to finish as well," he added. "I see a young player who has the full package, plus he is someone who I see working on how to make himself better."

Gittens, meanwhile, is relishing his time in Germany.

After stints in the youth academies of Reading, Chelsea, and Manchester City, he moved to Dortmund in 2020 at just 16 years old, having never made a senior appearance in England. Since making his Bundesliga debut in 2022, he has become a key player for the club and a regular for England’s Under-21s.

Reflecting on his development in an interview with the Bundesliga’s official website, he said: “I think I am much more mature on and off the pitch, more strict about certain things, more game understanding of knowing what to do off the ball as well, defensively and through bad times."

On his decision to leave England at such a young age, he admitted: "It definitely wasn’t easy. Sometimes, I sit down at my house and think it could have been different."

"I am thankful that I am here right now to play football and do what I love and to do it for Borussia Dortmund is even better," he said.
