Chelsea turned down two opportunties to offload struggling winger Mykhailo Mudryk this summer, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

"In the summer, Chelsea had two opportunities to sell Mudryk," Romano revealed, speaking on his YouTube channel on Friday.

"In August, an Italian club and a German club expressed interest in signing Mudryk, but Chelsea didn't even want to enter discussions because they see Mykhailo as part of their project," he said.

Mudryk, 23, joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in January 2023 for an initial fee of £62 million.

Big things were expected of the Ukraine international following his impressive breakthrough season with Shakhtar, which saw him shine in the Champions League, but he has since failed to make his mark at Stamford Bridge.

In 66 games for Chelsea, Mudryk has hit the back of the net just seven times and he now finds himself out of favour with Blues boss Enzo Maresca.

Romano said that despite his poor form, Chelsea are still prepared to give Mudryk time.

"Chelsea is ready to wait because they trust Mudryk," he said. "Thus, there are no signs that Chelsea would want to sell Mykhailo."

Romano also said that Mudryk remains keen to prove himself at the Bridge and has no intention of leaving anytime soon.

"The situation surrounding Mudryk is absolutely calm," the transfer expert explained. "He is working diligently to impress coach Enzo Maresca."

"Trust me, Mudryk is one of the best professionals in the world of football because he works incredibly hard," he added. "Every single day, he strives to become the best version of himself. His goal is to succeed specifically at Chelsea, and he wants to do everything possible for the club."

A midweek masterclass

While Mudryk may have struggled for Chelsea this season, on Friday, he put in a stellar display for his country, scoring the only goal as Ukraine beat Georgia 1-0 in the UEFA Nations League.

The goal, which came in the 35th minute, saw Mudryk dribble beyond no less than three Georgia players before slamming the ball into the bottom corner from just outside the box.

The Chelsea star was voted as the Player of the Match for his display.
