Chelsea's upcoming Premier League game against Liverpool on October 20 will no doubt be tough.

Under new manager Arne Slot, the Reds have enjoyed a fine start to the new season. They've lost just once in all competitions, winning nine of their 10 matches and currently sit top of the Premier League.

So the news that the Blues could now be without three of their key players for the game will not be music to the ears of the club's fans, nor manager Enzo Maresca.

Marc Cucurella and Wesley Fofana will miss the trip to Anfield through suspension, having both picked up their fifth yellow cards of the season in Sunday's hot-tempered 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

Nicolas Jackson could also miss the game, with the striker currently under investigation by the Football Association, after footage emerged of him appearing to grab at the face of Forest defender Morato during a melee between the two sets of players.

The scuffle erupted after Forest's Neco Williams pushed Cucurella into Maresca on the sidelines, causing the Italian boss to fall over.

Jackson was set to find out whether he would be banned on Monday, but a verdict has yet to be reached.

Do Chelsea have a discipline problem?

Chelsea received six yellow cards in Sunday's draw with Forest, meaning they will now have to pay a £25,000 fine.

The Blues previously picked up six bookings and the same fine in their 1-0 win over Bournemouth in September.

Maresca conceded after Sunday's game that his side need to improve their discipline, but also said that he admires the fighting spirit of his players.

“These things can happen,” Maresca said. “In terms of emotion, the team is fighting altogether and I don’t think some of them lost their heads. They were, all of them, in the game. I was happy with that.”

“I am not going to pay it,” he joked about the latest fine, before adding: “It is something we need to improve but overall, I like the team the way they are fighting. I like the way they are becoming a team in these kinds of things. I don’t see any problems about that.”
