Former Liverpool star Dietmar Hamann understands exactly why some of the Premier League's biggest clubs, including Chelsea, are interested in Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush.
Marmoush, 25, is the Bundesliga's top scorer this season having scored nine goals in seven games, averaging a strike every 66 minutes.
The Egypt international, who was named September's Bundesliga Player of the Month, also has four assists.
"I believe that both strikers from Frankfurt, Marmoush and Hugo Ekitike, are catching the eye of English clubs. They complement each other wonderfully," Hamann, who made 280 appearances for Liverpool between 1999 and 2006, recently told Wettbasis.
"Ekitike has shown potential for quite some time, and he seems to be flourishing now," he said. "Conversely, I was always amazed that Marmoush didn't find his rhythm at Wolfsburg. He is an exceptional player, a great finisher, and possesses remarkable speed."
Hamann added: “Both players undoubtedly present enticing prospects for the Premier League."
Reports from earlier this month claim that Chelsea are one of a number of Premier League clubs who are eyeing a move for Marmoush, who would be allowed to leave Frankfurt for a fee of around £33.5 million (€40 million).
Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United are also understood to be keeping tabs, with Arsenal having sent scouts to watch Marmoush play in Frankfurt's recent 3-3 draw with Bayern – a game in which the striker scored twice.
Hamann sees Marmoush as a good fit for his former club, where he believes the Frankfurt star could be a natural successor to his compatriot Mohamed Salah, whose future at Anfield is currently up in the air.
Salah is the the final year of his contract with the Reds, and despite hinting we would like to stay at the club, has yet to be offered a new deal.
"Replacing Salah will be no easy task; he hasn't missed more than ten matches in the last eight or nine years," said Hamann. "However, I have faith that Marmoush could rise to the occasion.”
Who is Omar Marmoush?
Marmoush began his professional career in Egypt with Wadi Degla, before signing for Wolfsburg in 2017. Following loan spells at St. Pauli and Stuttgart, he joined Frankfurt in the summer of 2023.
In his first season at The Waldstadion, he scored 17 goals in all competitions, including 12 in the Bundesliga as Dino Toppmoller's side finished sixth in the German top flight and qualified for the Europa League.
Late last month, after Frankfurt beat Holstein Kiel 4-2, another game in which Marmoush scored a brace, Toppmoller heaped praise on his in-form striker.
"He's responsible for producing danger up front, firing in goals and setting up others," said the Eagles boss.
"He's very difficult to defend due to his pace and how fast he can run deep. He can also sneak in from close range, exhibit a great touch and play some great balls."
He added: "He's in outstanding form at the moment, and he's feeling comfortable. That's the key to his success these days. He feels comfortable with this club and the group, and is thus a key component for us."
