Cole Palmer is currently the best player in the Premier League.

At least that's according to Jamie Carragher, who on Monday heaped huge praise on the Chelsea star during Sky Sport's coverage of Bournemouth's 3-1 victory over Southampton.

"I think he is the best player in the Premier League, I do," the Liverpool legend turned pundit said of Palmer, who on Saturday scored a record four goals in the first-half as Chelsea beat Brighton 4-2 at Stamford Bridge.

Carragher said he thought Palmer was also the best player in the top division last season, even though he voted for Manchester City's Phil Foden as his Player of the Year.

“Last season I was a little bit reticent to say that he was the best player in the Premier League. I actually felt he was, but the fact that Chelsea hadn’t has such a great season," he explained. "And I ended up going for Foden just above him and most people thought the same, as Foden got the two player of the year awards, but inside I felt he was the best player in the Premier League."

"Right now, there is no better player in the Premier League over the last 15 months," Carragher concluded.

Carragher shared the footage of him praising Palmer to X, the platform previously known as Twitter, later on Saturday night and asked his followers for their opinions.

Many agreed.

"The best of them all," commented one fan under Carragher's post.

Another wrote: "If we are being real he has a case of being the best player in the world right now."

Carragher isn't the only former Premier League star to have heaped praise on Palmer following his record-breaking show versus Brighton.

After the game, former Arsenal and England forward Theo Walcott compared Palmer to Arsenal greats Dennis Bergkamp and Robin Van Persie and said he expects the Chelsea star to go on and become a "legend of the Premier League."

"He is so gifted," Walcott told BBC Sport.
