Marc Cucurella has revealed that he and Thiago Silva struggled to get along when he first joined Chelsea just over two years ago.

Cucurella joined the Blues from Brighton in August 2022 in a big money deal worth £55 million.

The Spaniard, however, struggled for form in his early days at left-back in Chelsea's defence, which at the time was headed by the veteran Silva.

Speaking with the Premier League on this week’s edition of “Ask Me Anything," Cucurella was asked which Chelsea player he has learned the most from during his time at Stamford Bridge.

He answered Silva, but with a caveat.

“Thiago, maybe I’ll say Thiago," Cucurella said. "Our relationship started very bad, but then with time I think for example I enjoyed playing with him, and I think he enjoyed playing with me also."

Silva is, of course, no longer a Chelsea player, having left the club at the end of last season.

Cucurella, however, is, and is currently enjoying his best run of form at the club.

This season, he's emerged as a key player under new boss Enzo Maresca, having started all five of the Blues' Premier League games.

Cucurella will go up against his former club Brighton on Saturday when Chelsea welcome The Seagulls to The Bridge.

Speaking about this weekend's game, defender Axel Disasi said that he expects Brighton to be a "very hard team to beat."

"They have already beaten teams like Manchester United so we know it will be a tough challenge for us," Disasi said of Fabian Hurzeler's side, who currently sit in seventh, just two places and one point behind Chelsea, in the Premier League.

"But the way that we have performed in these last games, we are confident going into this match," he added.
