Reece James could be nearing the Chelsea exit door.
At least that's according to Football Transfers, who on Sunday reported that James' agent has been sounding out new clubs for him on the continent, including FC Barcelona and Benfica.
Football Transfers claim that they have been told that James has been advised that the "warmer climates of southern Europe could significantly aid" the player's long-term fitness.
"The belief is that the higher average temperatures, combined with the slower pace of leagues like La Liga or the Portuguese Primeira Liga, may reduce the risk of further injury and allow James to extend his playing career at the top level," wrote Steve Kay.
James' whole career has been hampered by injuries.
According to Transfermarkt, since breaking into Chelsea's first team in the 2019/20 season, the English defender has missed well over 100 games through injury.
He's yet to play for Chelsea at all this season having picked up an injury before the start of the campaign, but returned to training on Monday.
Chelsea broke the news that James was back on the training pitch by way of a series of photos shared on the club's website and social media accounts.
"Back in team training," Chelsea captioned their Instagram post.
James commented on the post with a clock emoji.
