Wesley Fofana speaks out after horrific racist abuse following Arsenal defeat

Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana has spoken out after revealing he was racially abused on social media following Sunday’s Premier League defeat to Arsenal


On Monday, Fofana shared screenshots of six racist messages sent to him after the 1-0 loss to the Gunners on his Instagram story.


Shortly afterward, Chelsea released a statement confirming they were aware of the abuse and vowed to take action against those responsible.


"The abuse Wes Fofana has been subjected to following yesterday’s fixture is abhorrent and will not be tolerated," the statement read. "Wes and all our players have our full support. We will work with the relevant authorities to identify the perpetrators and take the strongest possible action."


Now, Fofana, who only recently returned from injury, has posted a message of his own, urging social media platforms to take responsibility in addressing such abuse.


Now, Fofana has shared a message of his own, calling for social media platforms to do their bit in helping put a stop to such abuse.


"2025, stupidity and cruelty no longer hide," he wrote in another Instagram story. "It's not just football, it's not just a 'game' when some believe their skin colour makes them superior to others."


"It's time for things to change, for platforms to take action, and for everyone to take responsibility," he added.



Fofana’s abuse follows similar incidents involving Fulham's Calvin Bassey, Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure, Newcastle United's Joe Willock, and England defender Kyle Walker,


Chelsea has contacted Meta, the owner of Instagram, for comment.
